Hello Genesee Mountain Thunder Families,

There are less than two weeks until the start of our Summer Swim Season (YAY!), so this communication contains a lot of information in anticipation!

The SwimTopia Website is our Primary Communication Resource

Throughout the season, you will receive weekly emails from the SwimTopia portal on upcoming events. Note that you will need to log into SwimTopia to RSVP for team events and meets and to sign up for Parent Participation Jobs. Please check the Events and Meets tabs regularly. Right now, you can see full schedule of practices, meets and events on the website to help with summer planning.

After School Practices Start Monday, May 15^th – Clear Creek Rec Center

We have secured pool time at the Clear Creek Recreation Center – in Idaho Springs 20 minutes from Genesee - between 5:00pm to 6:30pm Mon-Thursday the week of May 15^th. Please come for all or part of the sessions, as this is a great opportunity ease into the water before regular practices begin. 

At this point, the Genesee Foundation is planning to open the pool on May 12 (which is amazing, and maybe hard to believe!) We will still plan to swim the first week at Idaho Springs, but will hope to move evening practices the week of the 22nd to Foothills, of course weather permitting. We will keep an eye on the weather for that week and communicate practice locations and times accordingly. We are working on a few fun dinner fundraisers that first/second week - more info to come!

Just a quick reminder for any of our swimmers that are USAA swimmers (on other year-round teams) - the last day you may practice with your other team and still be eligible for this summer with GMT is May 14th! 

Team Swimsuit Ordering

Swimsuit availability, while better this year, is still a bit of an issue. Please ensure you go to the below link to get your suits ordered as soon as possible. Information on how to buy team gear and swimsuits is located on the Shop – GMT GEAR tab of our website https://genesee.swimtopia.com/shop Order now to ensure delivery before our first meet.

Kickoff Barbecue is Sunday, May 21st

We look forward to seeing you at the kickoff barbecue! The team provides hamburgers, hotdogs, Veggie option and drinks. We will have sign-ups for sides/salads and desserts to help round out the event. We will ask for RSVP's in order to be sure we have enough food. We always look forward to this great kick-off event! Look for a communication soon with RSVP and sign-up information.

The Coaches and Parent Board will host an orientation session in the Vista Clubhouse starting at 4:30 pm. We look forward to seeing all new parents and swimmers at this event. We also encourage returning families to attend if they want more details on the upcoming season. Key topics include:

• Meet the coaches and a preview of the upcoming season
• Use of SwimTopia and how it is used for communications and meet coordination
• What to expect at practices and meets
• Parent participation expectations
• Open forum to ask questions

Food will be served at the conclusion of the orientation session. We hope everyone can attend as we kick off the start of our season.

Registration remains open ONLY for Genesee Foundation Residents

Spread the word! Don’t forget to register for Genesee Swim Team. Registration is still open for Foundation residents. (https://genesee.swimtopia.com/). This is one of the few organized activities available in Genesee that brings our kids together - so encourage your neighbor kids to get engaged in this great team and sport! 

Looking for Volunteer Officials!

Another great and fun way to get more engaged is to become a league Official - with this job, you help ensure fair racing and teach our kids about the rules of competitive swimming, all while having a front-row seat! We need to provide officials for all meets - home and away, and we are losing some of our officials. Please email us if you are interested or have questions about this involvement and training.

New Logo, New Merch!

In a very exciting development, we have a new logo for the team! We will unveil the logo at the Kick-off BBQ. With this will come some really exciting new merchandise available for purchase for kids, parents, grandparents, siblings, and all of our GMT fans! Stay tuned, we will have some great, high-quality items that will help you cheer on and support our kids in style.
