Hosting 3 meets - starts with YOU!

To this amazing team: we are hosting THREE home meets this year, THREE weeks in a row! Whew! This Saturday is the first one - and it really has to be all hands on deck. Golden is a big team, and it will require our full team to help us prep and put on a great (and hopefully fast) home meet. Please be sure to get in your swimmer's events by Thursday, but go ahead and sign up now for volunteer slots. We will start with volunteer shifts on Friday evening (7-8ish - if we get a lot of help!), and will go through lots of jobs on Saturday (runners, ribbons, computer, concessions, heating, timing, bathrooms, officiating, starting, youngun' wrangling...and more!) Please, please sign up for a shift or two or three - whatever you can do!

Because we are hosting 3 in a row, we have opened up the shifts for all 3 meets now. Please go ahead and sign up for what you can commit to, so we can be sure we get the right coverage to put on a good, fun, and safe meet. 

Get ready! The GMT Fourth of July Bake Sale is almost here!

As a tradition, Genesee Mountain Thunder hosts our highly-anticipated bake sale at the Genesee 4th of July Celebration event. This is a tremendous event for our community, wonderful for family involvement, and is our biggest fundraiser of the season. The bake sale is part of the overall Genesee Foundation 4th celebration-- which starts with a fun run, then a morning parade with the Genesee team riding/walking/scooting as a group (wear your team shirt!) and continues with music, pool games, and other exciting activities. Our tent is set up in the middle of all the fun and people look forward to all the treats: the small nibbles, the family-sized treats, and the grand baked goods, which they purchase to bring to picnics and parties later in the day. We encourage all swim team families to be part of the fun!

WE NEED YOU AND YOUR THUNDEROUS BAKING SKILLS!

We're excited for a delicious, creative, and profitable Bake Sale. Get CREATIVE and get the kids involved – they love being able to help and show their friends what they made!! Here are just a few ideas that sell well:

• Homemade pies - super popular and big-ticket items for us
• Homemade cakes – BIG or small, we will sell them all!
• Homemade cupcakes – please plan to package to sell (individual, sets of 4 or 6, dozen)
• Homemade bars or brownies – see above, same as cupcakes
• Homemade banana bread (or other tea bread) - sliced or whole
• Homemade cookies - packaged 2-4/bag (please bake at least 2 dozen)
• Popcorn packaged in patriotic-themed bags
• Chocolate-dipped pretzel rods with red-white-blue sprinkles

Remember it's 4th of July, so the more patriotic the decoration or packaging the better. Presentation is as important as the taste. In addition, if you have another baker in the family, or a neighbor that bakes and would like to donate too, please encourage! This year, we are going to ask greater Genesee if there are others interested in baking/donating and trying to bring more community to our swim team.

We will be sending out separate communication(s) on drop-off and more on additional volunteer needs for the 4th event - stay tuned, but start prepping that baking now! :) Volunteer slots for the Bake Sale/Parade are ALSO open on Swimtopia, so don't wait!
