Greetings,

It was great connecting with folks at the swim team kick-off BBQ.  It is hard to believe the first meet is just around the corner.  Since we have a lot of new families, I have included the By-Laws that govern our Summer League to this email.

As mentioned in the parent orientation session, parent volunteering is critical to the success of our season.  One role is being a swim official.  While this role, requires training, if you are interested in learning more please reply to this email.  (Starting with this Saturday's meet, we will pair interested officials with a "seasoned" official to help you understand the role and commitment.)

In  addition, I will conduct our team's officials training on June 11th during evening practice.

• Returning Officials - This will be a great refresher session.
• New Officials - We will review the sections of the attached Rules and Meet Guidelines that are important to 1st year officials. This will primarily be the following Rules:
  • Rules 4 - Officials and Their Duties - Section 1 - Philosophy of Officiating
  • Rule 8 - Swimming Events - Section 1 Starts
  • Rule 8 - Swimming Events - Section 2 Form of Individual Events
  • Rule 8 - Swimming Events - Section 3 Relay Events

Since the kids will be practice, and many learning strokes for the first time, we will have a great opportunity to observe their form and discuss aspects called out in the rules book.
